Purpose of the survey
The Evaluation Office evaluates all areas of the University of Zurich on the basis of the University Act and the Regulations for Evaluations. In the clinics of the University Hospital, employees are surveyed within this framework. The survey serves to ascertain the satisfaction of the staff with the work situation.
Personal data collected
The following personal data are collected in the questionnaire:
- Gender ("Male", "Female", "Other")
- Institution ("University of Zurich", "University Hospital (USZ, PUK, Balgrist, Kinderspital)", "Other")
- Category of employee ("Scientific personnel without physicians (incl. professors, doctoral or habilitation candidates)", "Physicians, attendings, residents", "Other medical personnel (incl. laboratory personnel, study nurse)", "Administrative and technical personnel (incl. study coordination)", "Other")
- Academic career phase ("No", "Yes, a Master’s degree or a Licentiate / Degree or Master's Degree from Medical School", "Yes, individual doctorate in Medicine, Chiropractic Medicine or Dental Medicine (MD; without MD-PhD and without doctoral programs)", "Yes, a doctorate (without MD; including MD-PhD and doctoral programs)", "Yes, a postdoctorate, resp. habilitation", "Yes, a medical specialization (FMH-Facharzttitel)", "Yes, other")
Data collection, processing, storage and erasure
The online survey is conducted by means of the external online portal “Tivian”. UZH has obliged "Tivian" to ensure compliance with data protection regulations through legal, technical and organizational measures. The data are only transmitted in the online portal using SSL encryption. Each participant will receive a personal access code that allows them the option of continuing with the survey even at a later date. The time of access and the IP address are stored each time the portal is accessed. A system backup is generated on a daily basis to protect personal data against any accidental destruction or loss.
The survey and analysis of the data is carried out by employees of the Evaluation Office. Access to the data is restricted to the employees of the Evaluation Office, who are subject to a confidentiality obligation.
For almost all questions there is the possibility not to give an answer. Nevertheless, the question about the employee category is a mandatory question because its answer serves as a filter in subsequent questions.
The data will be deleted by us after the completion of the analysis.
Data evaluation
The data collected is evaluated only for the above-noted purposes. The data will be anonymized following conclusion of the survey phase and prior to data evaluation.
Questions answered by fewer than five participants are not evaluated separately.
In the results report, individual variables may be compared by gender, institution or employee category. Here, too, only categories to which five or more participants belong are included.
The answers to the open questions are listed in the original wording in the results report. Therefore, please formulate your answers in such a way that an identification of persons is not possible. Statements that would make identification possible will be anonymized or deleted as far as possible. However, it may still be possible to draw conclusions about your person based on the content of your statement.
How will the reports be made public?
The Evaluation Office forwards the results report to the management and staff of the unit under evaluation, to the external experts and to the University's management bodies (Executive Board of the University, Board of the University).
What rights do you have?
Participants may withdraw their consent to processing in full or in part for the future at any time by written notice to the Evaluation Office of the University of Zurich and may request that all data collected to that date be erased, provided that any erasure of the data collected does not make realization of the purpose of the survey impossible or seriously jeopardize it. In addition, participants may be provided with information about the data stored with respect to them on request. Any relevant written requests are to be directed to: Evaluation Office of the University of Zurich, Mühlegasse 21, 8001 Zurich (surveys@evaluation.uzh.ch).
